Sessions are usually 50 minutes. You may be seen once a week, two or more times a week, or every other week. There is no right amount of sessions. It depends on your needs.
The length of time in counseling depends on the nature of the problem and the goals of the counseling. You may have a very specific problem that can be worked through in a set number of sessions. If counseling is an on-going growth and healing experience, it often continues for a longer period.
Unfortunately, there are times when one partner is not as willing as the other to come in for counseling. However, we often find that it is possible to improve the relationship through work with just one of the partners.
At Garson Counseling, we are able to accept all major insurances. If you do not have behavioral health coverage, we seek to make our services financially accessible by charging based on a sliding scale geared to your income and financial situation.
Yes, sometimes. But they are not for everyone. In situations where they may help, we generally make a joint assessment and, if you wish to pursue it, refer you to a psychiatrist for further consultation. While we do not prescribe medications ourselves we can usually recommend a psychiatrist who takes your insurance and with whom we have a cooperating relationship.
